Like gems but with a ‘j’? How deliciously absurd!
— apocryphal

JEMS is the nom de filme of writer-director duo John Eloff and Mikael Sahlberg.

John and Mikael met at school in their hometown of Norrköping, Sweden when they were nine years old, and they remained the best of friends for over twenty years until they started making films together. Since then, they are duct-taped together by naked ambition, a boatload of sunk-cost fallacies, and the unspoken determination that “If I’m going down, you’re sure as hell going down with me!”

Needless to say, JEMS used to love film at some point. Drawing on a range of influences from both on-screen and off, they strive to create films that bend reality just enough to show life not as it is, but as it feels.

But why tire your eyes with reading when you can see their work for yourself? After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, so by analogy, a motion picture must be worth a thousand motion words. And JEMS believe that might be a good thing or something.
